In Vermont, one man did what very few would.
Morgan Cerasoli had been heartbroken since her dog, Arizona, went missing on January 9. Arizona, a seven-year-old rescue, held a special place in her family’s hearts, and the thought of losing her was devastating.
On January 10, while driving to pick up her daughter from school, Cerasoli’s phone rang. To her shock and joy, a stranger named Chris MacRitchie told her he had found Arizona, who had been struggling to stay afloat in a freezing river.

In an interview with CBS News, MacRitchie shared how it all happened. While in a drive-thru, his son spotted a dog in distress, caught in the icy current. Without a second thought, MacRitchie parked his car on the embankment and jumped into action.
Wearing only a t-shirt, sweatpants, and boots, he waded into the freezing water to reach Arizona. His son captured the moment on video as MacRitchie pulled the dog to safety.

Once on the riverbank, his wife quickly wrapped Arizona in a sweatshirt to keep her warm.
It was like one of those moments everyone probably has in their life like you're going to make a decision. I felt I was obligated to at least try to fetch this dog out of the river, as I have two dogs myself, and I would hope someone would do that for them if they were in that spot.
Soon Cerasoli and her dog were reunited.
She saw the video and decided to share her thanks on a Facebook group by posting the video.
This man will forever be my Hero! Never told a stranger I love him so many times before. To some this may just be a man rescuing a dog, but to me, it's a man rescuing an extension of my soul! The video of the incredible human who saved my girl! ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Luckily, it was a happy ending to what could have been a very tragic story.
