Very few divorces go super smoothly.

Even if the parents separate without too much fighting and issues, the breakup of a marriage will always still affect all those involved.

It will feel especially tough when you have children.

Parents want the best for their kids and would want to protect them from being traumatised by such an event.

That's why co-parenting and other options are becoming very popular amongst divorcées, although there might be valid reasons why this is not always possible.

Something that will always hurt a little bit and might take getting used to is your ex-partner moving on with someone new.

But how will it affect the family dynamics?

Michelle Kimball is a very popular TikTok creator with over five-million followers.

She is a mom to a toddler and a bartender, and her content varies between the two "jobs".

In a recent post, she asked her audience for advice.

She began the video by explaining that she had met up with her ex-husband to exchange their son for a visit.

It was then that she heard her son say "Mama" when addressing the ex-husband's new wife.

Naturally, she was confused and upset and confronted her ex about it, to which he replied, "Because she is his mom when you're not there."

This did not sit well with Michelle.

The single mom ended the video by asking viewers for advice, as she was unsure if she was overreacting.

Many responded in the comments sharing their own stories and how they have dealt with similar situations:

  • ItsBbaby93x - "My boyfriend is “Drake” to my daughter, and I am “Brittany” to his kids. There’s a fine line on who gets those names, mom and dad, and I feel like that’s how it should be.
  • Erin🍄 - "My bonus son calls me mom. He did it on accident one day when he was 2 and I explained to him that he could call me what he wants but I'm not his real mom. HE chose to call me mom."

Kimball did respond to a few comments, including this one: "She shouldn’t even be okay with that…"

Her response was: "Agree! She has kids!!!!! She is good to Ryder so I’m not trying to dog her, but I’m really hurt. How would she feel if her kids called someone else mama?"
