South Africans will be the first to admit that our country is far from perfect.

One thing foreigners might not consider when interacting with South Africans is that our country might be in a state, but we are a proud people.

If you mess with one of us, insult any of our sports teams or throw shade our way, we will come together and fight back.

One British traveller recently found himself on the wrong side of Instagram when he posted a holiday video.

Jack, @jackstravelling on Instagram, documents his travels on social media and recently made his way to SA.

When he arrived in Cape Town, he filmed himself and his companion reaching their accommodation.

However, he was less than impressed to see what was on the walls of the hostel they were staying at.

Watch the video here:

Most people were surprised that his video wasn't about the beautiful wall art.

If you were to ask most South Africans, they would tell you that some of these security measures he mentions are necessary and are common around here.

His video quickly gained traction online but did not sit well with locals.

Here are just a few of the comments:

  • southafrica - "We’re honestly more concerned about that comb-over. Please wear sunscreen! ❤️"
  • cashe_kidd - "I genuinely thought this was about the wall art 🤣"
  • marcusboparcus - "I love all the South Africans pointing out that this is a him problem 😭"
  • gheko_za - "Voetsek man"

Other videos of his time in SA have been seen on his page, but they also did not go over well with Saffas.

Luckily, South Africans can agree on one thing, and that is that the only people who can trash-talk South Africa are us.
