ICYMI: Victor Matfield "takes down" UFC World Champ Dricus
Have you ever wondered who would win in a fight between a Springbok rugby player and a UFC World Champion? Well, wonder no longer.
In 2024, a video made the rounds on social media showing former Springbok Victor Matfield jokingly taking down UFC champion Dricus du Plessis.

The video seems to have been filmed at Loftus Stadium after the Bulls vs. Stormers game on Saturday the 2nd of March, but the source of the video is unknown.
In the footage, you can see Dricus hanging out with friends and a few other people while Matfield sneaks up on him.
Suddenly, the rugby player puts Dricus into a headlock, and the two tumble onto a couch.

Dricus du Plessis had South Africans across the world rejoicing as he was named the UFC Middleweight champion on the 21st of January.
The Pretoria local defeated Sean Strickland and celebrated his win all around South Africa.

On Sunday, August 18th, the proudly South African UFC middleweight champion Dricus du Plessis faced Nigerian-New Zealand mixed martial artist Israel Adesanya.

Almost a year later, Du Plessis and Strickland are set to face off again at UFC 312.
The much-anticipated rematch is scheduled for February 8 (February 9 in South Africa) in Australia.
