What started as a heartwarming story has taken a sad turn...
Everyone loves a feel-good story!

Linsey Huff is a divorced mother of two who was working her shift at the Mason Jar Cafe in Michigan when the unthinkable happened.
One of her customers shared that sadly they were in town because one of their friends had passed away.
Wanting to pay tribute to their late friend, the customer proceeded to tip Huff a massive $10,000 (estimated at R192,500) on a $32.43 bill and told her to share the amount with her fellow waitstaff.

Huff then honoured the man's wish and split the amount evenly with her co-workers.
Unfortunately, this is where the story turns sour.
When the story first went viral, the restaurant shared a post of the receipt with the tip and thanked the unknown patron for his generosity.
Not long after the story broke, Linsey was fired.

According to the Guardian, Huff shared in a now-deleted Facebook post that she had been let go after a dispute at the restaurant had erupted following the generous tip.
After the tip was shared amongst the waiters, some of the staff were upset about the fact that they did not get a cut.
Linsey had then told her managers about the disgruntled employees. In the next few days, Linsey was told by her managers to take a "mental health day".

After that, she was told not to return to work.
Both Linsey and The Mason Jar restaurant have taken to their social media pages to share their sides of the story but many of the posts have since been removed.

But as per usual, TikTok has all the receipts:

Huff's attorney Jennifer McManus shared that the owners were planning on suing her if she did not remove her Facebook post detailing the entire experience:
They said that they will sue her for her full estate. She kind of chuckled [at that] and said, ‘Well, good luck – I’m a waitress. There’s not an estate here.’ Through her own generosity, sharing this tip – honoring the requests of the person who had initially been so generous – she ended up losing her job.- Jennifer McManus (Huff's Attorney)
Hopefully, Linsey can now put this drama behind her and move on to better things.
