In 2024, relationships are no longer what they once were.

Men aren't always paying for dates and women aren't staying at home cooking for their partners.

People who are in relationships are no longer conforming to the set gender roles of decades past.

There is still no right or wrong, and it all depends on the relationship you have with your partner and how you choose to navigate these things.

However, there is some relationship behaviour that everyone mostly agrees on, like how cheating is problematic.

Couple finances can also be an interesting and often difficult conversation to have with a partner.

But would you go so far as to charge your partner for staying over at your place?

A woman recently posted a video on Instagram where she shared that she charged her boyfriend NZ$50 (R550) whenever he spent the night at her place.

Jessie Savings (@jessies.savings.journey) documents how she saves money and shares tips for saving money on her Instagram page.

While many people appreciate her advice, she has shared one video that caused some backlash.

In the video, she mentions that her boyfriend pays her 50 New Zealand Dollars whenever he stays at her place, which covers rent, utilities, and food.

She also tells viewers that the money he pays her is put in her savings and will go towards surprising him with a birthday trip.

While it might seem like a sweet gesture, a few viewers made some serious points in the comments.

One person said that the boyfriend is essentially paying for his own birthday trip while another likened the situation to prostitution.

That might be a slight overreaction, but it still feels a little strange.

Others mainly pointed out that her rent doesn't go up when she has visitors, so why is her boyfriend having to contribute?

Some have said that Jessie Savings enjoys rage-baiting her viewers in order to get them to comment on her content.

No matter her true intentions, there is no doubt that some partners will have a serious issue with this setup.
