Even if your mother tongue is English, there are some words just waiting to be mispronounced.

Although many languages share common origins, they can still be vastly different in spelling, grammar, and pronunciation.

Take two of South Africa's official languages for instance. Afrikaans and English are both of Germanic origin, yet their structures and rules set them far apart.

While some people pick up new languages quickly, pronunciation often remains a challenge. Even fluent speakers can stumble over words with baffling spelling and pronunciation rules.

We've all seen how difficult it can be for those who don't speak Afrikaans as a first language – it can be a real challenge.

Morgan is one half of the Instagram duo @acrosstheatlantic.

The account documents the relationship of Morgan, an all-American girl, and her South African fiancé, Pierre.

Naturally, an American dating an Afrikaans South African will pick up on some words.

Morgan is trying to learn more of the language, and she often posts videos of her speaking Afrikaans.

In a recent video, Morgan shares a few of her favourite Afrikaans words, and her pronunciation is actually quite impressive!
