It’s become a running joke across the country because if you know, you definitely know.
Of course, there are exceptions. Some taxi drivers take pride in their work and play by the rules.

But this? This is a textbook taxi tale.
A video that recently went viral on Instagram with over 70,000 views perfectly captures the kind of madness South African drivers face daily.
What makes this video even more unbelievable is that the incident didn’t happen on a public road.
Instead, it took place in the drive-thru queue of a popular fast-food joint.

The concept of a drive-thru isn’t exactly rocket science and it’s one of the few queues where cutting won’t actually get you ahead.
Since orders are prepared in sequence, jumping the line doesn’t mean you’ll get your food any faster.
But one taxi driver clearly didn’t get the memo – or was just too hungry to care. After placing their order, they pulled out of the queue and tried to sneak back in further ahead, hoping to beat the system.

The moment was caught on camera by the car behind them, with the driver and passenger in disbelief at what they were witnessing.

It’s a classic “Only in South Africa” moment, complete with the two women in the car dropping a perfectly timed “Haah?!” like they’ve been rehearsing it their whole lives.
Just when you think you’ve seen it all, a taxi driver shows up to prove there’s always more.
