World’s 50 Best Restaurants Awards features two South African gems
Renowned restaurant Wolfgat, which came 90th last year, has dropped off the list.

The World's 50 Best Restaurants Awards has once again been announced, and while one of SA's top establishments has lost its spot, others have claimed the 75th and 94th spots on the list.
Fyn, a restaurant in Cape Town, came 75th while also winning the Flor de Caña Sustainable Restaurant Award 2023.

The restaurant offers a menu inspired by Japan and uses ingredients sourced within the Western Cape, with a dinner menu costing an individual diner R1,875 (this excludes the R1,350 wine pairing).
The meal includes a grilled Springbok leg, smoked mussel chawanmushi, and Ikejime yellowtail.
With over 50 per cent of Fyn’s menu readily suitable for vegetarians or vegans and endemic vegetables taking centre stage, the restaurant is doubling down on its sustainable philosophy while also upholding the highest standards of flavour and technique, making it a worthy winner of the Flor de Caña Sustainable Restaurant Award 2023.

The second restaurant to make the list is the modern French-meets-Asian Cape Town-based La Colombe.
