Good Morning Angels: Assisting matriculant Kevin and his family after a devastating crash
Updated | By Breakfast with Martin Bester
Assisting the Rustenburg community to help matriculant Kevin and his family after a devastating crash.
The Hoërskool Rustenburg community was shaken by a devastating road accident on the weekend on 13 May 2023. Three boys from the school were involved.
One of the boys died on the scene, one sustained slight injuries, and the third, Kevin Jansen van Vuuren, was severely injured.
Since then, the community has been praying, raising funds, and rallying around the families - especially the Jansen van Vuuren family while Kevin fights for his life.
He has been in a coma since the accident while his body slowly recovers. Kevin has a twin brother and a younger brother.
Just before the crash, Kevin was selected to play rugby for the Leopards, his academics were strong, and he was preparing to end his school career on a high.

Now, he is lying in a Sub-Acute Rehab facility in Pretoria as the state hospital cannot do more for him.
He is breathing on his own, but still has not opened his eyes.
Kevin’s family do not have medical aid and the rehab facility is not covered by the state. His family drive the 130 kilometres between Rustenburg and Pretoria daily to visit and support him.
That’s why several members of the Rustenburg community have been raising funds for this family.
One of these is a 15-year-old aspiring golfer, Ian Bezuidenhout, who asked his parents to, instead of throwing him a 16th birthday party, rather help him to organise a Golf Day for Kevin.

ORIGINAL REQUESTS:
Dear Good Morning Angels,
We would like to contact you on behalf of our friends.
On 12th of May 2023, one of our children’s friends was in a very serious vehicle accident. He is in matric this year, a student at Rustenburg High School. Kevin Jansen van Vuuren is in a critical condition in the Dr George Mukhari Academic Hospital in Pretoria where he first had to be stabilized before doctors could operate on him.
Kevin’s current medical condition: he is in a coma and his injuries are very severe. Bleeding on the brain, 3 fractures on his skull, lung collapsed, chest injury, bladder laceration, stomach and liver laceration, broken pelvis.
Since the accident the community of Rustenburg and people all over has been great in supporting and praying for Kevin and his family.
We have created a fundraiser on Backabuddy, but the family will be needing much more than what we will be able to receive from the fundraiser.
As per the Doctor’s on Friday 19/05/2023, Kevin will be needing a few more operations to help him breath and receive proper feeding. Kevin has not woken up yet and the Doctors informed his parents that his brain injuries are very serious. The Doctors also confirmed that after these operations, Kevin will need to move to a Rehab facility where he will need to continue his recovery.
Therefore, we are in need of Good Morning Angels urgent assistance in regards to Kevin’s Rehab recovery. This will have a very big financial impact on his parents and we need Good Morning Angels to assist us with spreading the word and help Kevin’s parents with the financial assistance.
Good Morning Angels, we urgently need your assistance.
Kindly can you contact us and help us in making Kevin and his family’s road to recovery a bit lighter.
Kind regards,
Anja and Debbie
Good Morning Angels
Dankie
Charlotte Brits
