GMA Coronavirus Support: Helping House of Mercy Hospice to care for the terminally ill
Shirley Coetzee runs a hospice in Secunda Mpumalanga and they currently have eleven patients in their care.
BACKGROUND: They are five staff members who work two shifts - a day shift and a night shift. Their very ill patients cannot receive any visitors at this time. They also cannot go outside for their daily walks. The national lockdown is particularly difficult for these patients, as they are terminally and particularly lonely. The hospice depends on donations for the public and their local church to buy food and other essentials to care for their patients. Shirley’s daughter, Elynn asked Good Morning Angels to assist them in this difficult time, as donations have dried up. Elynn writes: "All or any donations during this time would be more than welcome. The people my mom is taking care of are so dear to her heart".
