GMA Extra: 'Fight for Sight' with Dinner in the Dark
Updated | By Lee-Roy Wright
You can dress up and dine in style for a great cause!
GMA EXTRA 29 MAY 2017 (ROUND TABLE/DINNER-IN-THE-DARK)
BACKGROUND: The Round Table Pretoria (136) has been partnering with the Centurion Eye Hospital since 2011, in their 'Fight for Sight' initiative. The Centurion Eye Hospital's exceptional doctors, nurses and staff provided their time, skill and facilities in aid of visually impaired beneficiaries with the Round Table raising the necessary funds to cover the sundries required for the operations.
The target beneficiaries are children from poor and rural areas with rectifiable conditions, sometimes by a simple 20-minute procedure, that would have otherwise never been available to them. It really is a case of going to sleep with 15% vision and waking up with 100% and only being able to recognise your own mom by her voice and her faint outline and actually being able to count the freckles on her nose as she snuggles you post operation.
"The Dinner-in-the-Dark"concept is more than a fundraising evening. It is also a campaign to create awareness. Round Table Pretoria 136, the Centurion Eye Hospital and Atterbury Boutique Hotel want to take our guests through a brief moment in the life of someone that is visually impaired. They experience what our beneficiaries go through everyday and what we take for granted. Our guests will experience some of the conditions that our beneficiaries commonly experience culminating in the main meal being served in complete pitch black darkness."
