GMA Extra: 'Go For Gold' this September for childhood cancer awareness month
Updated | By Lee-Roy Wright
September is childhood cancer awareness month. CHOC has launched a new awareness campaign. They are urging all to 'Go For Gold' by purchasing a golden ribbon this September.
SEPTEMBER IS CHILDHOOD CANCER AWARENESS MONTH: SUPPORT CHOC’S GOLDEN RIBBON CAMPAIGN
ORIGINAL REQUEST:
As you are aware, in developed countries childhood cancer has largely become curable, with the overall survival rate reaching between 70% and 80% or higher whilst in South Africa the rate is closer to 50%. CHOC aims to ensure that more children in South Africa are cured and that the survival rate goes up.
Jacaranda FM can play a vital role in helping us raising awareness by offering your support towards our national Go For Gold campaign. Please see below and attached.
Our aim is to see how many people we can encourage to wear the gold ribbon during the month of September. Players in the community such as the Vodacom Blue Bulls has joined the campaign and offered their support during their match against Griekwas mid-September. I am hoping that Jacaranda Radio will partner with us by asking your listeners during a Good Morning Angels Show to order their ribbons and wear it during the month of September in support. We can even see if we can sold out our Northern Region stock of 5000 ribbons J (The gold ribbons are available from any CHOC offices nationwide at R20 each).
I would also like to share this very special CHOC video creation of the song “We Are One” (click link below) with you. It was filmed at the CHOC supported pediatric oncology ward at the Frere Hospital in East London and it is a great mixture of children singing; nurses, doctors and CHOC volunteers doing their thing; and it depicts the suffering and challenges the children and parents face, while at the same time the joy of being part of a loving community.
I look forward to discussing this campaign further with you in the near future and together we keep more than hope alive. As always, Jacaranda FM support is greatly valued by us.
Thank you & regards,
Ina
