GMA Coronavirus Support in partnership with LottoStar helps Corné de Necker
Updated | By Jacaranda FM
The GMA Coronavirus Support, in partnership with LottoStar, has R500,000 to share with families in need. Corné de Necker is one such recipient - listen below!
Original request letter:
Thank you for your unconditional support to our country. Corné (52) is my sister and lost her job just before lockdown. She currently has no income whatsoever. Her ex-husband passed away a year and a half ago and there was no provision made to take care of their children: Doné (17 and in matric) and Erich (16 and in Grade 11).
They currently stay in a one-bedroom garden flat. Our 74-year old mother is still working and paid their rent for this month, but she is on no-work-no-pay leave for the lockdown and will not be able to do the same next month.
My husband and I help where possible, but can not cover all expenses.
Corné has been trying very hard to find another job and has sent out 50 CV’s – with no response. She has sold just about everything of value that she could to keep the roof over their heads.
Corné's vehicle is in a very, very bad state, the children's school fees are very behind and they don't have internet for the current 'school cloud' to get info and help for their school projects. Luckily they have WhatsApp and send me their projects - then I do the research for them and WhatsApp the info back to them.
This breaks my heart! We don't stay in the same town and I cannot get food to them and I know Corné with her humble heart will always say that they are okay. How can any mother live with herself knowing her children are suffering?
I truly hope and believe GMA will come to their rescue.
God bless the GMA team, please stay safe.
