UPDATE: Good Morning Angels celebrates Mandela Day
Updated | By Breakfast with Martin Bester
To celebrate Mandela Day 2022 our Angels raised a total of R 1,104,000 for Hospice in Gauteng!
To celebrate Mandela Day 2022, the Jacaranda FM family came together to honour and support Hospice. What better way to honour the legacy of Madiba, who would have been 104 this year than to say thank you and lend a hand to those who carry us through our darkest days. There are 17 Hospices in Gauteng, that serve the severely ill and their families in our community every day of the year. Hospice, like everybody else, has been struggling through the pandemic and we asked you to show them some love.
Since Monday, our amazing listeners, corporates and supporters donated: R 1 071 500!
RECIPIENT: Jacqui Kaye, representing the 17 Hospices in Gauteng
DONOR: The Good Morning Angels Fund will round up the amazing amount donated so far by another R 32 500 for a total of R 1,104 000 to the Hospices in Gauteng. This is our way to honour the legacy of Madiba, who would have been 104 this year!Watch the Good Morning Angels hand over here:

BACKGROUND: We’ve made it to the other side of COVID-19! No more masks, no more lockdown, now more curfews, no more event restrictions. We indeed have much to be grateful for. But, before we move on - let’s remember and give thanks to some of those who got us through the worst time in recent history. What better way to spend this Mandela Day, than to say thank you and lend a hand to those who carried us through the darkest days, to equip them to continue their selfless, tireless work?! For this reason, on Monday 18 July 2022, Jacaranda FM will be supporting Hospice.
Madiba said: “Remember, that hope is a powerful weapon, even when all else is lost.”
Who is Hospice:
The Hospice movement in South Africa exists to provide care and support to all patients with life-threatening illnesses and to walk alongside them as they focus on celebrating their life with their families. Hospice is about the quality of life and dignity of patients and their families facing the unknown, through the prevention and relief of suffering, the treatment of pain, and dealing with other challenges, including the psychosocial and spiritual. Hospice offers a dignified and comfortable care alternative in the comfort of a patient’s own home or In-Patient Units.
Gauteng has 17 independent Hospices. As independent Non-Profit Organisations, these Hospices rely on donations to keep their doors open to enable the Home-based Care Nurses to continue seeing their patients, and for the interdisciplinary team to ensure that a patient who cannot afford the services is not turned away.
We are raising funds for Hospices in Gauteng - representing all 17 hospices in the province:
For cash donations: Visit www.jacarandafm.com - click on the donate button and select 'Mandela Day 2022'. No amount is too big or too small – from R67 to R67 000. All funds will go towards Hospice to support their selfless, incredible work.
Or email: [email protected] with 'Mandela Day' in the subject line.
To donate goods or volunteer: Most Hospices run charity shops, that will accept any second-hand goods for re-sale to raise much-needed funds. Hospice will also collect goods from donors - just contact them to make arrangements. If you do not have goods to donate, you can always buy from these thrift shops.
