GOOD MORNING ANGELS 19 APRIL 2017 ("JANET")
A young student survives a hellish rape-and-robbery ordeal, and is not giving up on her future.
REQUEST FROM: Nomsa
REQUEST FOR: 20-year old student, “Janet”
ANGEL: The Good Morning Angels Fund
SPONSORING: The GMA Fund will help “Janet” with R25,000 in vouchers to buy some of the appliances and supplies she needs for her new res room and her studies.
Take a listen to the heartbreaking experience Janet went through:
BACKGROUND: We call her "Janet" to protect her identity and we don’t mention the institution where she is a student, for the same reason.
This 20-year old student survived an ordeal that is too harsh to imagine. She was raped, multiple times, by a gang of robbers, who also forced her friends to do the same. Janet was not at a party or doing anything reckless. She was merely catching a train to go home after class. Her home is a shelter, as her own mother cannot look after her. Despite growing up in poverty and without the support and love of a family, she’s studying hard to change her future.
It was after dark on 17 March – Janet and friends from school were waiting for their train. They noticed the gang and tried to walk away, but they were overpowered. Janet believes the gang members were irritated because the students didn’t have much of value to steal. That’s why she believes they raped her. She is receiving help and counselling from the home and her school. They are also helping her with a room in res, so she does not have to travel by train after dark.
Janet wants to survive this trauma and she’s looking to the future. She knows it will take time to heal, but in the meantime she needs some help continue her journey fearless and strong.
ORIGINAL REQUEST:
One of our students endured an horrific incident on 17 March 2017. She was raped by nine men on the same day. This girl is a 20-year-old language practice student. She resides in a shelter in Pretoria CBD, due to her mom being mentally incapacitated and institutionalised. She commutes between school and home by train daily.
On the 17th of March, on her way back home, while walking with her classmates (three males) they were approached by six robbers. The robbers demanded their cellphones and money.
The students did not have many valuables on them, and the robbers got aggravated by this and forced them to a nearby veld. When they got there, the six robbers forced the girl to undress and started taking turns in rapping her, at one point there were two guys having their way with her at a time.
Once they got tired they beat up the classmates and forced them to also rape the girl. She is currently receiving counselling and medical assistance and on campus accommodation has also since been arranged.
Unfortunately, the assistance she will be receiving from the institution of learning alone will not suffice for all her needs. She has still needs a cellphone, text books, clothes, blankets, groceries, toiletries, laptop, and a fridge.
We would like to plead with Good Morning to assist where possible.
Any form of assistance will be appreciated.
Regards,
Nomsa
