Is 'sexting' cheating?

Sexting. According to the dictionary, it means: send (someone) sexually explicit photographs or messages via mobile phone. There is nothing physical, is it really that bad?
In the world we live in, everything is done online, from studies to grocery shopping and even making friends, but there's been one debate raging on for the last few years. If you are in a committed relationship - is sending explicit messages to another person cheating?

The more people I ask, the more on the fence I am about this, in my friend groups the answers are split down the middle with half saying they would be devastated by it and half saying as long as there is nothing physical, there is no problem.
Everyone I know has either done it or is currently involved in a secret online fantasy. Some even say it makes them a better partner to their spouse...
