Seven car guards risk their lives to save woman from hijackers

Seven courageous car guards and
two security guards at Village Mall in Hartbeespoort risked their lives when
they chased and caught armed robbers who had attempted to hijack a woman.
The car guards were suspicious of the two men loitering in the parking lot and ran to assist the woman when they heard her screaming. The robbers saw the car guards coming for them and ran off with her handbag and cellphone.
The woman had just finished her shopping and when she got to her car, she was overpowered by two armed men. They pulled her from the driver’s seat and tried to push her into the back. She screamed and the robbers hit her in the face. The car guards heard her screams and came to her aid.
This is what the guards had to say when interviewed by the Kormorant.
“They were pointing a gun at us while they were running away, but we chased them, shouting ‘tsotsis’, until we caught them."
While calling for backup, the guards went after the robbers without thinking twice. “They ran when they saw us coming, but we came from all sides.”
The Village Mall manager, Heleen Erasmus, has asked if anyone wishes to donate good shoes and jackets for the guards before the coming winter, they should contact mall management. The mall would also administrate all donations from community members.
