There's a tiny electric car giving Tesla a run for its money. Read below.
Over the past week, we've all been curious about the Bajaj Qute, a quadricycle that's rumoured to be the most affordable vehicle available on the market in South Africa. The Qute costs R75 000 and travels at a maximum speed of 70km/h.
We've now come across another tiny electric car that costs R72 000 and runs at a maximum speed of 100km/h and can cover between 120km to 170km on a single charge according to a report by Aljazeera. The Hong Guang MINI EV generates 20 kW of maximum power and 85 Nm of maximum torque.
It's small on the outside and spacious on the inside - the interior has up to 741 litres of space with the back seats folded down.

The car can be charged with a normal 220v outlet similar to other electric cars. The car is currently available for purchase in China and consumers apparently bought more of these than Teslas due to their affordability.
The mini vehicle also comes equipped with the anti-lock braking system (ABS) with electronic brake-force distribution (EBD), tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) and reversing radar. You can travel with your little ones in this car as the back seats are equipped with two ISOFIX child safety seat restraint interfaces.
