A group of people who are against the COVID-19 vaccine marched in Cape Town over the weekend, but clashes with police turned things sour very quickly.

Everyone has the right to stand up for what they believe in. This was exactly what took place over the weekend in Cape Town when anti-vax protestors took to the Sea Point promenade to make their views known.

However, a clash with police saw the march turn ugly, with one protestor thrown into the back of a police van with force.

Police did not take kindly to a protestor - who was not wearing a mask, getting up close and personal with them. The protester told police: “You work for me”.

Earlier, police had asked those gathered to “please continue with your protest, wear your mask and keep 10 meters away from the police. You are too close. If you don’t adhere to this, offensive measures will be taken, and that includes the use of the water cannon.”

Anti-vax protests have become the norm around the world as we try to overcome the COVID-19 pandemic. It is not mandatory in South Africa for citizens to get the vaccine, but it is encouraged.
