Cristiano Ronaldo getting paid NOT to star in a movie
Updated | By Minenhle Khoza
The Portuguese star’s Hollywood debut has been put on ice, but no worries, he's still getting paid. A lot.
Ahh, to be Cristiano Ronaldo. One of the world’s top footballers, endorsements galore, and also one of the top earners in the sport. As if all that isn’t enough, you get paid not to star in a movie.
How much exactly is the Real Madrid star getting paid not to star in this movie?
The movie in question is a new Martin Scorsese movie called “The Manipulator”. The movie is loosely based on the life of Italian tycoon Alessandro Proto.
Why is Ronaldo getting paid to not star in this movie? Martin Scorsese wanted to shoot a few scenes for the film in Ronaldo’s stunning penthouse apartment at the Trump Towers in New York. To talk Ronaldo into it, Scorsese offer Ronaldo a small part in the movie. Sounds fair, right?
GQ magazine reports that the film’s main man, Proto, did not want Ronaldo to star in the movie, citing that having the superstar in the movie would take all the attention away from him.
Exactly how much is Ronaldo getting for his…errr…efforts? How does something to the tune of around $22-million sound? And how much is that in rands?
Channing Tatum will reportedly take over from Ronaldo.
