Dr scammed into buying R1.5-million Aladdin-style wish-granting lamp
How far would you go to have your wishes come true?
Fraudsters duped an Indian doctor into buying an Aladdin-style magical wish-granting lamp for R1.5-million - about 7-million rupees.
The fraudsters who have since been arrested went as far as conjuring up their own genie in the elaborate scam.
Dr Laeek Khan reported the matter to the police in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh after he realised the lamp did not have any magical powers.

According to reports, the men wanted more money for the lamp, but the doctor paid seven-million Rupees. In the complaint, Khan reportedly said one of the men pretended to be an occultist and made a 'jinn' appear from the lamp. Khan asked if he could touch the genie but was told he could not touch nor take the lamp as it could cause him harm. The pair eventually sold him the lamp and promised that it would bring him good health, wealth, and fortune.
Khan later realised that the 'genie' was actually one of the men in disguise.
