Girl,10, asks to skip school to join women's protest
This young girl decided to join her mom in a protest against women inequality.
Laura Moreschi tweeted a letter her daughter wrote to her school principal requesting a day off for an important cause.
She explained why she would not be attending school on International Women's Day.
“I would like to participate in “The Day Without Women Protest,” the letter starts.
The 10-year-old then moves on to highlight how she would go the extra mile to ensure her voice is heard.
“I am going to write a letter to the editor, contact my congress man, and do whatever I can to make my voice heard. With your permission I would like to be excused from school this Wednesday.”
According to womensmarch.com, “The Day Without Women Protest” is aimed at “recognizing the enormous value that women of all backgrounds add to our socio-economic system--while receiving lower wages and experiencing greater inequities, vulnerability to discrimination, sexual harassment, and job insecurity. We recognize that trans and gender nonconforming people face heightened levels of discrimination, social oppression and political targeting. We believe in gender justice.”
Anyone woman wanting to participate in the march can do so by taking the day off, from paid and unpaid labor, avoid shopping for one day (with exceptions for small, women- and minority-owned businesses) and wearing RED in solidarity, the sites states.
