How much money have you saved by self-diagnosing via the web?
Updated | By Tando Ntunja
With online services such as Web MD, television shows at a point such as Dr Michael Mol's "Hello Doctor", the need to visit doctors for diagnosis seems to be on the decline. How much have you saved on your doctor's bills as a result or do you prefer to still visit the doctor?
The conversation around self-diagnosis via the web has been given a new boost with the current HPCSA hearing with banting advocate, Professor Tim Noakes. The HPCSA (Health Professions Council of South Africa) are placing Noakes' conduct under review in the hearing, after he had dispensed dietary advice in a tweet, advising a mother to wean her child on a low-carb/high-fat diet.
This raises the question - what medical advice do you get via the web or even on web-based medical services such as Web MD?
Have you found any of these platforms useful at all and how much money have you saved as a result of not consulting a doctor at a practice?
There have also meanwhile been emerging television shows that give health and lifestyle advice.
