"Let it go”- choosing to forgive to free yourself
Updated | By Poelano Malema
People we love and care for can sometimes cause us the most pain. The pain often results in grudges and resentment. This can cause us to carry a heavy burden. But sometimes in life, one has to reach a point of choosing to let go in order to free themselves.
Although forgiveness is one of the hardest things to do, choosing the opposite route is known to be poisonous. Not only does it bring pain, but it can even ruin your own health, research has found. The feeling of resentment can eat the joy out of your own life, but choosing to let go can be of great benefit to you.
Bishop TD Jakes, in his sermon “Let it Go”, highlights this point clearly. He says: “It’s not about the perpetrator, it’s about liberating the victim.”
“I’m not going to wait for you to ask for forgiveness, you may not ask for forgiveness. I can’t give you that much power that I put my life on hold waiting on you to come to yourself. I'm not gonna wait on you,” he added.
