Vernon Barnard has a brand new album out and we just had to have him sing for us!
Vernon Barnard was born with glaucoma that left him blind from the age of six, despite having 16 operations in an attempt to save his eyesight.
Even with his disability, Vernon has led a full life, competing internationally in blind cricket matches and recently as a contestant on The Voice: South Africa. He performed One Direction’s ‘Story of My Life’ and won over coach Bobby van Jaarsveld, whose chair turned around first.
In the podcast, he spoke to Mack about his new album ‘Deur jou oe’, the hardships of being far from home, and the challenges he faces with his disability. During his time in boarding school, the only song that made him feel close to his family was Michael Buble’s ‘Home’.
