Research proves period pains as bad as a heart attack
Updated | By Poelano Malema
Ask any woman who has ever had period pains and one thing is clear - they are a nightmare.
It's that time of the month and that just means one thing - the Red Miss is here. For some women, this can mean complete disaster, where some have to miss work or school. For others, coping with the awkward cramps is doable. If you fall under the former group, it may be some comfort for you to know that scientists have been able to quantify your discomfort - by proving that period pains are actually as painful as a heart attack.
Tried and tested remedies include taking pain killers, exercising, soaking in a hot bath, drinking a glass of milk, putting a hot water bottle on the stomach - all of which have been medically proven to do nothing much to alleviate symptoms.
Professor John Guillebaud of University College London told The Independent : “Men don’t get it and it hasn’t been given the centrality it should have. I do believe it’s something that should be taken care of, like anything else in medicine.”
Reports note that the reason why there is not much being done to solve the problem is because women have been known to exaggerate pain and are also often accused of being dramatic.
But with this new research, it is clear that period pains are to be taken seriously.
Are you any of those women who experiences bad period pains? Let us hear your story in the comments section below.
