Phuti is a mother of four girls and the owner of a thriving small business that offers sustainable protein alternatives.
In order to achieve her dream, Phuti started a business called, Mopani Queens, and set about selling dried Mopani worms as a delicacy.
When speaking about how she prepares the worms, Phuti said: “That’s why I was inspired to actually flavour them. I played around with a lot of spices until we got a winning formula that works. Traditionally Mopani worms are a lot cheaper than your other protein sources. They are cheaper to buy, they’re cheaper to store, you don’t need to put them in the freezer.”

Phuti is determined to make ethically-sourced Mopani worms the next big protein substitute in South Africa.
