Angelina Jolie to write 'Know Your Rights' book after fearful divorce

Angelina Jolie said she feared for the safety of her children before the separation from Brad Pitt.
Actress Angelina Jolie spoke about her divorce in an interview with The Guardian.
In 2016, Jolie filed for divorce from actor Brad Pitt. Jolie accused Pitt of domestic abuse.

These allegations inspired Jolie to write a book, 'Know Your Rights, with child rights lawyer Geraldine Van Bueren QC and Amnesty International.
She explained that children do not have a voice in court when parents divorce.

"Then I had an experience in the States with my own children and I thought... well, human rights, children's rights," she said. "I remembered the rights of the child, and I took them out and looked at them and thought: well, these are for when you're in a situation and you want to make sure there is support for the children in your life."
When Jolie was asked if she feared for the safety of her children, she responded, "Yes, for my family. My whole family."

The couple's divorce was only finalised in 2019.
Judge Ouderkirk ruled in favour of Pitt in May, granting him joint custody of his children; the ruling has since been thrown out, with Jolie retaining full custody following the judge's removal.
