'Boet & Sus': A new LGBTQ experience produced by the National Theatre of Namibia

The cast of 'Boet & Sus' joined the Scenic Drive to talk about the brand new LGBTQ and drag stage production proudly produced by the National Theatre of Namibia.
'Boet & Sus' is a new stage experience produced by the National Theatre of Namibia. Based around a talkshow format, this production was created to shine a light on the coloured community in Namibia; the culture, the history, as well as the blossoming LGBTQ and specifically drag community in their country.

It’s fun, tongue-in-cheek, and at times mischievously irreverent. It offers food for thought around politics, oppression, historical dispensation, but more than that, it offers the ‘non-coloured’ viewer a glimpse into the lives of an otherwise closely guarded community in a way that we never get to see it - brutally honest and completely laid bare. A key message in this production is the ’same-same but different’ thread between Namibian and South African coloured communities.

Many interesting questions are raised here.
If Black lives matter, do Coloured lives too?
Between Black Lives Matter and White Supremacy, where does it leave the Coloured community?
How can Coloured people be so racist to each other - from bastards to thoroughbreds.
As mentioned, Drag is one of the major themes in this production. Many of the political questions and commentary centre around the outspoken nature of the Drag community and their ability to transcend the need to ’sugarcoat’ issues in life.

"It’s fun, it’s educational, it’s informative and I really want as many people in South Africa to support this initiative. You laugh out loud at times, and others you cringe thinking of how ill-treated the Coloured community has been in the past."
