Boxing star Roy Jones Jr talks about opening a gym in SA
Updated | By The Scenic Drive with Rian
Boxing superstar Roy Jones Jr is opening a new gym in South Africa in collaboration with Jodi Solomon.
Keen followers of overseas boxing will recognise Roy Jones Jr as the Florida-born middleweight boxer who ruled the ring in the 90s.
Roy is now taking his experiences from his years as a top boxer and channeling them into a new project: the gym he is opening in Craighall, Johannesburg. The Roy Jones Jr and Jodi Solomon Boxing Gym is a collaboration with South African boxing trainer and manager Jodi Solomon.
Roy has said that he is thrilled to be working with Jodi on this important project: "Jodi is a force to be reckoned with. Together, we are going to inspire all who love boxing and add South Africa's great talent to the world of boxing."
The Boxing Writers Association of America named him the "Fighter of the Decade". In 2002, Roy began a short music career with the release of his rap album, Round One: The Album.
