Does a straw have two holes or just one?

Or perhaps a better question is: what makes a hole, a hole?
Friends can get into an argument over almost anything. With both sides insisting that their points are correct, debates can carry on for hours, until you have no idea how the topic came up in the first place.

These two boys argued for a good two minutes about the holes in a straw, even picking up props to illustrate examples.

The two ended up arguing about what would happen if you "jumped into a hole", as one of them insists that the hole at the bottom of a straw is only the second side of the one hole at the top. Therefore a straw has one long hole. But his friend says that the fact that there is another opening at the bottom of the straw proves that there are in fact two holes.

An internet search seems to prove the first friend right: there is one hole. But what do you think? How many holes does a straw have?
