Dubai builds its own "Martian City"

The Martian City is part of Dubai's plans to eventually build a colony on Mars.
Researchers in Dubai are kicking the project to take humans to live on Mars into a higher gear. The UAE territory plans to build a 1.9 million square-foot complex, called Mars Scientific City, that will be completely isolated from the outside world, in order to completely simulate what life would be like on Mars for humans.

For one year, researchers and scientists will live in this Martian City, figuring out how to grow food on Mars and probing the psychological effects that the red planet’s environment would have on human beings.
Huffington Post reports that Mars Scientific City is the first major step in a long journey towards the UAE’s eventual goal of building a colony on Mars by 2117.
