"The human rights of prisoners are not even spoken about" - Golden Miles Bhudu prisoner rights activist
Updated | By Scenic Drive With Rian
Prisoner rights activist Golden Miles Bhudu joined the Scenic Drive with Rian to talk about prison rights and the life behind bars.
Golden Miles Bhudu wanted to become a teacher and then a politician, however, after being unemployed for two-years he turned to crime and ransacked a warehouse in Nigel, a small gold mining town in Gauteng.
Bhudu was arrested and sentenced to prison for almost seven years.
Bhudu was offered parole but declined because the condition stated that he was prohibited from revealing to the world what prison was like.
In 2010, he started a political party, Corrections and Civil Rights Movement (CCRM).
In 2014, Bhudu was arrested for demonstrating whilst wearing a prisoner's uniform but was later released.
Bhudu joined the Scenic Drive with Rian to share more about the life in prison and the rights of prison.
“Prisoners should have access to healthy nutrition and medical care”
“Prisons are basically inhumane at the moment. They want to stop human rights in prison.
“The human rights of prisoners are not even spoken about.
“If you go to prison, you must be rehabilitated. That's why prisons are there for.
'Yes, I understand the fact that rapists and murderers should get different treatment but there are some cases where prisoners should be rehabilitated and get a second chance."
