President Cyril Ramaphosa has announced a nationwide lockdown for 21 days that will begin on Thursday at midnight. This is meant to curb the spread of coronavirus.

"From midnight, on Thursday 26th March until midnight Thursday the 16th of April, all South Africans will have to stay at home," said President Ramaphosa.

The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) will be deployed to assist the police to ensure that citizens adhere to the lockdown. All shops will be closed except for pharmacies, supermarkets, banks, petrol stations, and healthcare providers.

On Tuesday morning, Rian van Heerden weighed in on the decision that was made by the President. 

"Like everyone, I am very proud of President Cyril Ramaphosa," Van Heerden wrote on Facebook. 

"Lock your door behind you on Thursday, and understand that this is the right thing to do."

Van Heerden also wrote on his page that the Scenic Drive show on Jacaranda FM "will go on".

Van Heerden announced on Tuesday that the team will work and broadcast from home.
