Two months after a DNA test confirmed that Aigali Supugaliev was dead, the 63-year-old Kazakhstan man walked into his home. He was received by a stunned family who had all been present at his funeral.

Supugaliev, who went missing on 9 July, was declared dead after a DNA test conducted on a corpse found close to his home gave a 99,92% positive result.

The family had received an official death certificate for Supugaliev and had just finalised plans to erect a tombstone at his grave. His niece was so shocked to see her uncle walk in alive and healthy that she nearly collapsed from a heart attack.

Supugaliev told his family that he had taken a job on a distant farm; it was a four-month contract that prevented him from coming home.

The scientist who conducted the DNA test, Akmaral Zhubatyrova, said it is "impossible" to be one hundred per cent certain of the identity of a deceased person. He added: "We should not forget about the remaining 0,08%".

Supugaliev's sister-in-law was grateful to see her brother and expressed disappointment in the scientist who had conducted the DNA test: "Glory to Allah that he returned alive, but we are going to prosecute the experts who gave such a DNA result."
