The relationship between Oprah Winfrey and her father, Vernon Winfrey, has always been tight, and she has frequently expressed her gratitude to him.
On July 4, when America celebrated Independence Day, Oprah Winfrey surprised her dad, Vernon Winfrey (88), with a very unique celebration.
Oprah (68) stated in an Instagram video: "We've been preparing a backyard BBQ, but this is actually more than a backyard barbecue."

Because of her father's illness, she notes, "we wanted to be able to have all of his friends come and celebrate him while he's able to receive the joy."

Regarding her father's condition, Oprah made no further comments. Oprah has always been adamant that family is important and has been of the firm belief that in order for us to know where we are going, we need to know where we come from.
