Newsreader with chin tattoo makes debut on television

A newsreader made her television debut with a tattoo on her chin - and it shocked the world.

New Zealand journalist Oriini Kaipara made history on Thursday when she became the first newsreader to present a news bulletin on mainstream television with a moko kauae, a traditional Maori facial tattoo.

In New Zealand, the female moko kauae tattoo is traditionally limited to the chin, lips and the area above the upper lip.
The journalist told various sources that the tattoo is very personal to her, after she discovered that she has 100% Maori ancestry.
