The people of this small KZN village may have stumbled upon a goldmine

Residents of KwaMachi, a small rural village in Kwa-Zulu Natal, have been caught up in a "gold rush" this week.
When the men working on repairing the roads in the Harding area of Kwa-Zulu Natal spread shale by the roadside, they did not think twice about the way the fine rock twinkled.
It was not long before the rocks were traced to a nearby quarry and residents of KwaMachi, a small rural village, descended on the area to dig for gold.

People have placed all their hopes on the gold, but these may soon be dashed. It is more than likely that the sparkly rock is just a mineral called pyrite.
News of the fool's gold (the alternative name for pyrite) has reached Reddit, where people are speculating about how long it will be before the government gets involved in the gold rush.
The massive amount of digging on the hill has caused it to become unstable and, while a landslide was reported, no one was injured.
