Pretoria gallery owner Stuart Trent tells Rian about 'Me, Myself and I'
Updated | By The Scenic Drive with Rian
Owner of Trent Gallery in Pretoria, Stuart Trent is slowly building an inspired collection of self-portraits with a twist, done by South African artists.
Stuart Trent is a celebrated gallery owner and art enthusiast from Pretoria East.
Inspired by the journey of Belgian artist Francis Alÿs, who spent many years of his life collecting replicas of a painting of a saint by Jean-Jacques Henner, Stuart began asking South African artists to create portraits of him in their unique styles.
To date, Stuart has 240 portraits of himself, rendered by 179 artists including Diane Victor, Guy du Toit, Banele Khoza, Nico Erasmus and Esther Mahlangu.

Rian was inspired to do a portrait of his own. He followed the style of renowned ballpoint artist Lucinda Neethling, and the results were quite impressive!
