Projek Dina: Task team solves Cape Town’s missing people mystery
Updated | By Scenic Drive With Rian
'Projek Dina' delves into the underworld of human trafficking and the daily reality of missing persons all of which are inspired by true-life stories.
A child goes missing every five hours in South Africa. Approximately 30% of children reported missing are never found, while almost 50% of missing adults never re-emerge. - SAPS Missing Persons Bureau, 2013
Three members with totally different personalities and detective styles
thrust into one team, an extraordinary amount of missing persons'
cases and their personal lives plagued by turmoil and distress –
viewers can expect this and so much more in kykNET’s new procedural drama,
Projek Dina.
'Projek Dina' delves into the underworld of human trafficking and the daily reality of missing persons all of which are inspired by true-life stories. These include adrenalin-fuelled chases, success stories as well as heart-breaking endings and discoveries that will leave you reeling.
Each episode contains one or two stand-alone cases of missing persons and, as a procedural drama, we watch the Rapid Response Task Team kick into action, doing everything they can to interpret the evidence, locate the missing person and bring them back to safety.
These efforts see our resourceful detectives, handpicked by Brigadier Patricia Dlomo, working around the clock and venturing into Cape Town’s most dangerous corners in order to close the case.
Captain Deon Visagie (Tim Theron), the leader of the task team, is a strategist and sleuth by nature.
He pays attention to all kinds of detail, including fat-carb-protein ratios and the spaces between street poles.
The worst part of his job is interacting with people – not because he’s uncaring, but because he prefers the cold, hard facts to the inevitable layers of grey found between what people say and what they mean.
However, when it comes to media and his professional relationships, Deon dons the perfect smile and masters the delicate balance between charisma and seriousness. It’s personal relationships he struggles with – like his working relationship with sergeant Lux Dladla (Chumani Pan).
Lux is everything Deon is not: a people’s person with a high EQ and easy with people. He can’t stand bureaucracy and petty rules.
The task team also makes use of an unofficial informant – the street-savvy Charlene “Charlie” Botha (Kay Smith). She is a self-taught techno savant and hacker who can do pretty much anything on a computer.
Warrant officer Ronel Oosthuizen (Chanelle de Jager) is the heart of the task team and others rely on her to hold things together. She is a no-nonsense dynamo that calls a spade a spade. She carries a deep-rooted secret.
Lee-Ann van Rooi, Jana Kruger, Wilhelm van der Walt, Nadia Valvekens, Pierre van Pletzen, Jane de Wet, Zenobia Kloppers, Crystal Donna Roberts, Christia Visser, Mila Guy, Neels van Jaarsveld, Paul du Toit, Trix Vivier, Elsabe Daneel, Ilse Roos and André Rothman are just a few of the actors that will make an appearance in the series.
Former Hawks investigator Marcel van der Watt and Missing Children SA’s Nicky Rheeder and Bianca van Aswegen were the content consultants on this series.
'Projek Dina' is produced by Penguin Films, who is known for producing series like Sara Se Geheim, Arendsvlei and the feature film Krotoa.
'Projek Dina' is scheduled for broadcast on January 14, 2020.
