Rian found out that the drive-by shooting on the Cape Flats was staged
Updated | By Nkhensani Manabe
A video that went viral on social media last week showed a drive-by shooting - but it was staged.
On Friday 27 October, Rian reacted to a video showing a green golf driving down a street in the Cape Flats area while its occupants shot at bystanders on the street.
It appeared to be another mass shooting orchestrated by a gang, and it left Rian in shock.

On Saturday 28 October, another video surfaced on Twitter, this time negating everything that happened in the previous clip:

The man in the video is one of the actors who was involved in the staging, which he says was part of an anti-crime message aimed at discouraging people from joining gangs.
IOL reports that police were aware of the staging. Police spokesperson Andre Taut says the police are relieved that there was no real or serious incident, and added that "any initiative to bring down violence on the Cape Flats is welcomed by the police".

Taut also mentioned that the incident with the staged video raised concern about how people accept what they see or read as fact, without verifying any of it.
