Rian talks to former Springbok team psychologist Henning Gericke
Updated | By The Scenic Drive with Rian
Henning Gericke is a respected sports psychologist who has worked with Bafana Bafana, the Stormers rugby team as well as the Springboks. He shares some career highlights with Rian van Heerden.
It takes more than just the players on the field to make a sports team great. From coaches to team managers to family members, there are many people working behind the scenes to drive the teams to greatness.
One such person is respected South African sports psychologist Dr Henning Gericke. Dr Gericke has worked with national sports teams including Bafana Bafana, the Stormers, the Proteas and the Springboks.
Speaking about how he begins to motivates his clients, Dr Gericke mentions how he asked Cameron van der Burgh to visualise winning a gold medal for swimming. Dr Gericke found that visualisation worked to make the goal more tangible and to encourage his clients to do the work necessary to achieve that goal.
In his book, Inspiring Champions, Dr Gericke takes the lessons and strategies he has gathered over the years and shows the reader how to channel them into success in business, life and, of course, sport.
