Thulo Serobe of St Stithians College and Liezel Gouws of Hoërskool Wesvalia both achieved an incredible seven distinctions in their 2017 Matric exams.
In 2017, Liezel Gouws completed her Matric year at Hoërskool Wesvalia, a public school in the North-West province. Liezel left the school with seven distinctions.
Liezel is hemiplegic, meaning she has weakness on one vertical side of her body, but this has certainly not stopped her from reaching for her dreams.
Liezel has participated in the Rio Paralympics in 2016, running the 400m. She was the youngest participant on Team South Africa.
Thulo Serobe from St Stithians College, a Johannesburg private school, also completed his Matric year in 2017. Thulo also left the school with seven distinctions.
Thulo plans to study business at Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, USA.
Thulo was privileged to attend St Stithians, but this did not mean that Matric was an easy ride for him. However, he did not let the stress of the final year dampen his spirits, leaning on his family and his faith for support.
