Rihanna declared National Hero of Barbados

Barbados declared Rihanna a National Hero as it became the world's newest republic this week.
Barbados, famous for its idyllic beaches and love of cricket, won independence from Britain in 1966.

In October, it elected Dame Sandra Mason as its first president, one year after Prime Minister Mia Mottley declared the country would "fully" leave behind its colonial past.
On Tuesday, 30 November, Barbados became the world's newest republic, and its prime minister's first act was to officially declare the island's most famous citizen, Rihanna, a National Hero.

The Grammy winner became a billionaire in August for her work as a singer and and with beauty line, Fenty Beauty.
It was estimated by Forbes that Rihanna is worth $1.7-billion, around $1.4-billion of which comes from the value of her beauty line.
