Updated | By The Scenic Drive with Rian
A group of Russian men participated in the first National Slapping Championship in the country. Bizarrely, the men sported swollen cheeks proudly as signs of patriotism.
There are many ways to show your patriotism. You can promote national dishes or buy your country's flag, or, in the case of a group of extreme fitness enthusiasts in Russia, you can compete in the country's first National Slapping Championship.
The contest is as simple and as bizarre as it sounds: men signed up to slap each other in efforts to prove who was the strongest.

Coming to the podium two at a time, the men took turns slapping each other until one of them surrendered.
The slapping contest was part of the Sarychev Power Expo festival in Moscow.
The winner, Yuriy Kuzmin, beat opponents to win 25,000 rubles (roughly $400).
