Scenic Drive with Rian: Local police show incredible kindness to special little boy
Updated | By Nkhensani Manabe
Young Aidan has been living with Costello Syndrome for eight years. One thing that makes him very happy is playing around the offices of the EMPD.
Police in South Africa very often get a bad rap, especially when it comes to the policing of traffic regulations. There is rarely any report of our police doing something purely out of their goodness of their hearts.
A video posted to the Raising Aidan page on Facebook could encourage others to change their attitude towards the police. Melissa Botha, mother to young Aidan, posted pictures of her visit to a police station in the Ekurhuleni region.

Aidan has Costello Syndrome, a genetic disorder that affects most of a person's body, including their joints and their heart muscles. It also results in delayed physical and mental development.
This might sound like a heavy burden to bear for both Melissa and Aidan, but as the statement on their Facebook page says, Aidan's mind is still very sharp.
Melissa posted pictures of her visit to a police station in the Ekurhuleni region. It is clear that Aidan loves visiting the police and playing in their cars.
Melissa says the police know Aidan well, and are always willing to let him play with their bullet proof vests or the sirens in the car.
For children with special needs like Aidan, happiness and comfort comes from the smallest things. These officers might not know how deeply their kindness affects young Aidan.

People reacted to Melissa's post with an equal amount of joy and with encouraging words. It seems the police in this area have been spreading random acts of kindness for quite some time.
