News reports suggest that the teachers cut off the students' sleeves to prevent them from cheating in the exam. It appears the authorities at Bihar quite literally did not want to catch students with anything up their sleeves.
Since news of the school's actions became public, there has been outrage on social media, with women students describing the humiliation of having their clothes cut in public view.
In addition, the school itself has been barred from holding further exam sessions by the District Education Officer.
The dramatic measures by staff at the school likely stem from the Muzaffarpur district's history of ill-disciplined students cheating during exams.
