Spectacular life-like lion cake takes over Cape Town mall
Updated | By The Scenic Drive with Rian
Dorothy Klerck, a South African baker and environmentalist, has created a splash with her latest large-scale creation: a five-metre-wide lion cake installation at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town.

Dorothy Klerck is known for her large-scale confectionery creations. Whether the sponge is chocolate, orange or vanilla-flavoured, it is the outside of the cake that draws crowds.
Dorothy, who spent some time in art school and has a passion for baking, always creates cakes that are as spectacular as they are delicious.
The most recent feat from the award-winning baker and environmentalist is a lion cake installation at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town. The cake features a pride of lions, complete with cubs, reclining in the bush.

And yes, every part of the installation is edible.
Dorothy partnered with Four Paws South Africa to create a cake that would raise awareness about lion conservation. This is part of the #RiseUpAndRoar campaign.
This beautiful scene took five weeks and 400 hours to create. That's 300 eggs, 80kg of moulding chocolate, 100kg of chocolate and an incredible 130kg of fondant!
Dorothy has made several animal-themed cakes in the past, and each one has inspired awe in all who have seen (and had the opportunity to taste) them.
