From tomato bredie to carrot cake: Ten-year-old Niaz loves being in the kitchen

Naiz Joseph's (10) love for cooking started at a very young age. He was always outside messing around with water and sand and then making mud cookies. He never used to play with toys like other kids, but rather had pots, pans, and utensils to play with.

When they used to go shopping, he would always want to go to the kitchen aisle of stores and his favourite shop used to be Westpack Lifestyle, and always left the store with something.

"He was a very easy child to please because you could just buy him a cheap kitchen utensil and he was the happiest child," his mom said.

These days it has to be the Yuppie Chef Store or even @Home, because he can go look at all the appliances.

Currently, his favourite appliance is his Instant Pot Smart Cooker which his father was eventually forced to get him. Now the pressure is to get him the Instant Pot Airfryer!

Currently, he basically does all the cooking in the house. After school he does his homework and then his mother can expect the phone call confirming what he wants to cook. So in essence when she gets home from work, supper is basically done or she just has to come and check the final bits.

Other activities that he enjoys is being outdoors and their weekend 5km walks either at Emmerentia Dam or Westcliff Stairs.
